iSoft signs fifth German Lorenzo site

Health software firm, iSoft, has announced the fifth German early adopter site that will implement elements of its Lorenzo software as it becomes available.
In a deal worth €1.8m, Klinikum Saarbrücken will install iSoft’s ClincCentre hospital information system (HIS). According to iSoft, as replacement Lorenzo modules become available Klinikum Saarbrücken will gradually replace individual modules of the HIS.
Under the three year contract, the replacement of the hospital’s existing Nexus inpatient system with ClinicCentre is due to be completed by September this year, with the first Lorenzo component to be installed in 2010.
When installed the healthcare application will be based on a service-orientated architecture, designed to allow the secure change of patient information between care providers.
Used in conjunction with iSoft’s Collaboration Suite portal, the HIS will allow GPs at the 600 bed teaching hospital to remotely access hospital patient records using web browsers.
The hospital located in Saarbrücken, the state capital of Saarland in West Germany is already an iSoft customer using the RadCentre radiology information system.
Peter Herrmann, managing director of iSoft Central Europe, said that this was a key factor in the hospitals decision to chose iSoft over other rival bids.
Herrmann said: “Klinikum Saarbrücken is one of Germany’s major general hospitals and renowned for using the latest technology in medicine and patient care.
Hermann added that the decision by Klinikum Saarbrücken offered the hospital the opportunity to migrate to a next-generation solution at a pace that suits their needs and budgets, while building on existing investments.
The deal is worth €756,303 in software license fees and implementation services, with €275,000 payable this financial year, and an additional plus €325,188 for support and maintenance over the three year contract.
Earlier this year two German sites signed to become early adopters for Lorenzo, Krankenhaus Buchholz and Winsen. They joined the University Hospital of Leipzig, which signed last year, and University Hospital Aachen that first signed to take Lorenzo in 2005.
